Screening Guidelines

COVID-19 Screening Guidelines

For the purposes of this document, the following definitions should be understood:

  • Positive COVID-19 diagnosis - the person has been tested and received a positive diagnosis or a medical provider has made a clinical diagnosis of COVID-19.

  • Quarantine - For CHAAMP purposes this means that a person under quarantine should not attend any functions at the gym where CHAAMP athletes are practicing or playing games.

  • Close Contact - At CHAAMP events, this would include practicing or playing games together with a COVID-19 positive person as well as being directly exposed to infectious secretions (e.g., being coughed on); or being within 6 feet for 15 minutes or longer unless both the infectious individual and the potential close contact have been consistently and properly masked.

Parents, Student Athletes, Family and Fans:

We encourage you to consider your student’s current state of health before attending ANY CHAAMP events, practices, workouts or competitions. We will not be conducting routine screenings or temperature checks at the gym. We are counting on you, the parent, to help ensure the wellbeing of your child and their teammates.

If a CHAAMP athlete has tested positive to COVID-19 or has been in close contact with someone who has an active COVID-19 infection, please contact Wendy Roseberry, the CHAAMP Board COVID-19 coordinator. Decisions to quarantine any athlete is at the CHAAMP Board’s discretion and not the decision of an individual coach or family.

In evaluating whether an individual has symptoms consistent with COVID-19, consider the following question:

Have they recently (within the last 72 hours) begun experiencing any of the following in a way that is not normal for them?

If you have any ONE of the following 3 symptoms, you should not attend practice or games (either as an athlete or spectator) and follow up with your healthcare provider.

  • Feeling feverish or a measured temperature greater than or equal to 100.0 degrees Fahrenheit

  • Loss of taste or smell

  • Close contact within the last 14 days with a person who has a positive diagnosis of COVID-19 within their infectious period (which includes 2 days before positive diagnosis through 10 days after diagnosis)

If you have TWO or more of any of the following symptoms, you should not attend practice or games (either as an athlete or spectator) and follow up with your healthcare provider.

  • Cough

  • Difficulty breathing / Shortness of breath

  • Fatigue

  • Headache

  • Chills

  • Sore throat

  • Shaking or exaggerated shivering

  • Significant muscle pain or ache

  • Diarrhea

  • Nausea or vomiting

If an athlete needs to miss a practice or game based on the above criteria, please notify your coach of your expected absence.

Each family or individual needs to consider their unique medical needs due to the increased risk of contracting COVID-19 at gatherings such as sporting events.
